Samuel Pepys
Thanks to James Pratt for highlighting that diarist Samuel Pepys collected model ships. Pepys turned to model ships as a method to gain 3D understanding of naval activities. St. Peters Model Ship Building Museum
Collector David Hawkins has opened a private museum of Model Ship Building in St. Peters, PEI, Canada. I am looking forward to a visit and a chance to view models built by Wheaton Gosbee of Abney, Paul Hansen of St. Eleanors, Billy Derby of White Sands and Boyd Allen of Murray River.
Richard Beresford's Model Schooners
The opportunity for viewing Richards Beresford's collection of 20 model schooners in one room has passed with his death and dispersal of goods. I am glad to see this 2014 article by Shawn Hayward capturing the collection's existence. Find it here in Down Home Life Magazine.
Wreck of the Arrow Oil Tanker in Cape Breton 1970

I also heard from Kline Holland who reported that a friend from past university days, Brian Julien, worked on the diaster while employed at Imperial Oil.
Model Boats of Fogo Island
Punt building is being revived on Fogo Island, Newfoundland thanks to the Shorefast Foundation and skilled boat builders such as Jim Edwards, Melvyn Combden and others. I am looking for model boats from Fogo Island including those by Melvyn's dad, Raymond Combden of Seldom. Thanks to Bonnie McCay for news on Raymond's model transport ship.

M.Katzev& Kyrenia Ship
Wonderful to be pointed in the direction of Michael Katzev & his work raising and preserving one of the earilest examples of a cargo ship dated to 300BC. Named for the harbour town near its waterly grave, the "Kyrenia Ship," is now on display in Kyrenia. Read NYtimes obit on Michael Katzev.
To better understand the original boat Katzev built a scale model representation.
