Thanks to James Pratt for highlighting that diarist Samuel Pepys collected model ships. Pepys turned to model ships as a method to gain 3D understanding of naval activities. Wreck of the Arrow Oil Tanker in Cape Breton 1970

M.Katzev& Kyrenia Ship

Wonderful to be pointed in the direction of Michael Katzev & his work raising and preserving one of the earilest examples of a cargo ship dated to 300BC. Named for the harbour town near its waterly grave, the "Kyrenia Ship," is now on display in Kyrenia. Read NYtimes obit on Michael Katzev.

To better understand the original boat Katzev built a scale model representation.
